Glass painting is an extremely skilled and labour intensive process and Cambridge Stained Glass is one of only a handful of companies in the UK offering this service for both new and restoration projects.
Glass painting is a traditional technique used in churches for centuries and in domestic windows since Victorian times where highly decorated, detailed results are required. The paint is mixed with traditional materials, applied to glass using a range of techniques and then fired in a kiln at high temperatures to permanently seal the paint to the glass.
Our Art College trained staff undertake this highly specialised work that requires well developed skills in painting and drawing, as well as knowledge of how a wide range of paints and glass react at different kiln temperatures.
Although the technique is very old there are many modern applications in both commercial and domestic settings, including free-standing pieces made to be hung in windows.
Our photo gallery shows a range of examples, some of which have been integrated into stained glass panels.
